Carnation productivity is the ability of a cultivar to produce a specific number of marketable flower stems per unit area within a defined period. This indicator is quantitatively expressed as the number of cut flowers per 1 m² or the number of flowers per plant.

For perpetual-flowering carnation cultivars under commercial greenhouse conditions, productivity varies from 75 to 160 or more stems per 1 m², depending on the light zone, season, and growing conditions. During cultivar testing, the genotype potential is evaluated based on flower yield per plant, which for successful commercial cultivars is approximately 6–7.

The productivity indicator is inextricably linked to the biometric development of vegetative mass, including shoot number, length, and diameter of flower stems, which determine the grade of the produce. To optimize cut flower yield, high-density planting techniques of 25 to 50 plants per 1 m² are employed, as well as regular pinching and strict adherence to light and temperature regimes, since any deviations in growing conditions lead to a sharp decrease in both the quantity and quality of flowers.
