Fusarium wilt of carnation

Dianthus L.

A dangerous tracheomycotic disease of carnation caused by the specialized fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi, which leads to systemic wilting of the plant.

In the reference 32 varieties crop Carnation, where this is mentioned in the description.

The causative agent of the disease is a specialized form of the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi, which possesses high specificity to the genus Dianthus. In global practice, 11 physiological races of this pathogen have been described, the identification of which is carried out using molecular genetic marker methods. The virulence of isolates can vary under the influence of biological factors, such as the presence of specific mycoviruses.

The disease manifests as unilateral yellowing, wilting, and drying of shoots. Cross-sections of the stem reveal characteristic browning of the vascular bundles, localized primarily in the lower part of the plant. Under high humidity conditions in the root zone, white or pinkish mycelium may develop, and the stem bark often acquires a silvery-white hue.
