The plant is a herbaceous perennial reaching a height of 0.1 to 0.5 m, averaging about 20 cm. It forms compact clumps of narrow grey-green leaves. The flowers are double, have a pink hue with a darker reddish base.

The variety prefers well-drained, predominantly slightly alkaline soils and sites with full sun exposure. It is used in ornamental gardening for borders, rock gardens, gravel gardens, and container planting.

The plant can be susceptible to aphids, slugs, as well as diseases including powdery mildew, rust, viral infections, and Fusarium wilt.
