Rose Rust

Rosa L.

A fungal disease of roses caused by specialized parasites of the genus Phragmidium. It manifests as bright orange pustules on the aerial parts of the plants, leading to shoot deformation and premature leaf drop.

In the reference 114 varieties crop Rose, where this is mentioned in the description.

The causative agents of the disease are obligate autoecious parasites Phragmidium mucronatum, Phragmidium tuberculatum, and other species of this genus, which infect leaves, stems, and buds. In spring, swellings and cracks with orange spore cushions form on young shoots and buds, while chlorotic spots appear on the upper side of the leaves.

During the growing season, bright orange uredinia form on the underside of the leaves, which are replaced by dark teliospores intended for the pathogen's overwintering toward the end of the season. Severe infection causes deformation of plant organs and disruption of water balance, which leads to significant exhaustion of the bush.
