For Calluna vulgaris, vigor is evaluated visually based on the growth dynamics of shoots and the plant's habit during the season. Quantitatively, this parameter can be expressed through the linear growth of the leading shoot in centimeters per growing season.

Three categories of vigor are distinguished: slow, characteristic of dwarf cultivars with growth up to 10 cm per year; medium, typical of cultivars with a height of 30–40 cm; and high, where plants rapidly fill the allocated space. Vigor directly influences the planting scheme, requiring an increase in distance between bushes for vigorous forms.

Excessive vigor, induced by an overabundance of nutrients, negatively affects the quality of the heather, causing it to become sparse and reducing its lifespan. In landscape compositions, this trait determines the plant's competitive ability and the need for regular pruning to maintain its decorative appeal.
