The plant adapts poorly to indoor conditions, as it requires bright, diffused light and cool temperatures. In indoor environments, heather does not tolerate temperatures above 7–12 °C and dry air. Container maintenance in winter is complicated by the rapid freezing of the root ball; therefore, heather is often used as seasonal decor.
