Vigor of rose

Rosa L.

A complex characteristic of the rate of vegetative biomass accumulation, used in describing varieties for UPOV DUS tests and in planning agronomic practices.

In the reference 131 varieties crop Rose, where this is mentioned in the description.

In official UPOV guidelines, vigor is assessed by experts based on the overall volume of plant development and correlates with the height and diameter of the bush. Since this parameter is genetically determined but depends on the biological group (miniature, hybrid tea, climbing) and the rootstock used, classification is carried out relative to typical representatives of the corresponding class.

For the agronomist, this parameter determines planting density, the need for supports, and the intensity of pruning for crown formation. Vigor serves as an indirect marker of bush vitality, although it requires control over nutritional and moisture conditions, as excessive development can reduce the commercial quality of cut flowers and their transportability.
