Spinach Vigor

Spinach vigor is evaluated through a set of traits, including the rate of leaf rosette formation, the intensity of vegetative mass accumulation, and the efficiency of the root system. In breeding and variety trials, this parameter is expressed through linear plant height measurements, biomass weight, and phenological indicators, such as the number of days from emergence to market maturity.

High vigor is preferred for varieties oriented toward continuous production, as it allows for faster harvesting and the reuse of planting areas. However, intensive development must be combined with bolting resistance, since under unfavorable temperature conditions and long daylight hours, accelerated growth can trigger premature flowering, which reduces the market quality of the produce.
