To create solitary plantings, tall-growing varieties such as OT hybrids are primarily used, as they become a visual dominant feature in a garden composition. Lilies are placed against a background of lawn or conifers, providing them with protection from strong winds that could damage large, heavy flowers, and choosing locations protected from midday heat while maintaining sun exposure.

Technically, a solitary lily planting involves planting one or several bulbs that, during growth, form a dense, self-sufficient clump. Unlike perennial trees, such a planting requires consideration of the lily's life cycle: the bulb cluster maintains its ornamental quality without being transplanted for five years, after which division is necessary to preserve the aesthetic qualities of the composition.
