A complex indicator of flower stalk quality determined by the pulling method, inflorescence maturity stage, and the ability of the hollow stem to maintain turgor in a vase.

Gerbera harvesting differs fundamentally from other crops due to the necessity of pulling the flower stalk from the leaf rosette, which eliminates the use of tools and prevents the transmission of infections. The stage of maturity for harvesting is considered to be when pollen appears on 2–3 rows of the central disc florets.

Physiological suitability is determined by the morphology of the hollow stem, which is prone to bending and xylem blockage by bacteria, as well as by resistance to grey mold. Marketability is assessed based on flower stalk length, inflorescence diameter, and the results of stress tests simulating the supply chain.
