Winter rapeseed sowing requires a 10–12-week growing period to develop a rosette of 8–10 leaves and a root collar diameter of at least 1 cm. Early sowing risks overgrowth and reduced winter hardiness, while late sowing leads to poor adaptation to winter conditions. Population varieties should be sown earlier than hybrids, and seeding rates must be increased if sowing is delayed.
Spring rapeseed requires early sowing to utilize soil moisture reserves, with seeds capable of germinating at temperatures as low as +1…+3 °C. The sowing date selection should consider the phenology of pests, especially the crucifer flea beetle, whose activity often coincides with seedling emergence. Due to the small seed size of the crop, sowing timing is critically dependent on the quality of seedbed preparation and uniform seed placement at a depth of 2–3 cm.
