The assessment of cucumber tolerance is based on the analysis of morphometric parameters, such as shoot length, leaf area, and biomass, as well as physiological markers: photosynthetic rate, antioxidant enzyme activity, and cell membrane integrity. Under pathogen pressure, such as powdery mildew, scoring scales for disease intensity are used in combination with calculating the percentage of disease incidence.
Crop-specific studies include the response to salinity, where cucumber shows low tolerance, and flooding, the tolerance to which is associated with the plant's ability to form adventitious roots and regulate ROS activity through CsPrx73-type genes. Cold tolerance is studied through the ability of seeds to germinate at low positive temperatures and the maintenance of productivity in vegetative plants.
