Tolerance — Soybean

Glycine max (L.) Merr.

The ability of soybean cultivars to maintain stable productivity under the influence of abiotic and biotic stress factors. The level of tolerance is determined by comparing yields under stress and control conditions, as well as by evaluating physiological markers.

In the reference 117 varieties crop Soybean, where this is mentioned in the description.

To evaluate tolerance in soybeans, calculated indices are used, such as the Tolerance Index (TOL), Stress Adaptation Index (SAI), Geometric Mean Productivity (GMP), and others based on the comparison of yields under stress and favorable conditions. Along with these, morphometric indicators are applied, including root system length and volume, as well as plant height during stress modeling, for instance, by using PEG-6000 solutions to simulate moisture deficit or salinity.

Plant physiological resistance is assessed by changes in the concentration of marker substances: proline, soluble sugars, malondialdehyde, peroxidase activity, and the level of isoflavones. Cultivars with high tolerance during salinity stress demonstrate a yield reduction of less than 29.5%, whereas sensitive forms show a drop in productivity of 40–50% or more.
