Tobacco, western flower, onion, and greenhouse thrips parasitize cucumber crops. The damage manifests as the appearance of light spots on the leaves, which subsequently merge into silvery patches, as well as flower deformation, ovary shedding, and fruit distortion. Black excrement of the pest is often found on the underside of the leaf.
Thrips are particularly dangerous in protected ground, where they actively spread and are transmitted from infected plants to healthy ones. In addition to direct mechanical tissue damage, they serve as vectors for phytopathogenic viruses, which significantly reduces the commercial quality of the yield and can lead to the loss of a significant portion of the crops.
