Yield of Italian ryegrass

Lolium multiflorum Lam.

The yield of Italian ryegrass is determined by the mass of green fodder, hay, and seeds obtained over several cuts during the season. The crop is valued for its rapid regrowth rate and its ability to produce up to 100 centners of hay or more per hectare.

In the reference 128 varieties crop Italian ryegrass, where this is mentioned in the description.

When assessing the productivity of Italian ryegrass, the total volume of produce obtained across all cuts of the growing season is taken into account. Under favorable conditions and with sufficient moisture, the crop allows for 3–5 cuts per season. Typical indicators for regionalized varieties reach 454–472 c/ha for green mass, 113–118 c/ha for hay, and approximately 9 c/ha for seeds.

The high yield of the crop depends directly on the intensity of regrowth and moisture availability. Since ryegrass is a moisture-loving plant, productivity levels drop sharply in the event of a water deficit. Optimal realization of yield potential requires strict adherence to mowing schedules, as delaying harvest leads to the coarsening of the biomass, which reduces its nutritional value.
