Herbicide Resistance in Rapeseed

Brassica napus L.

This trait encompasses the ability of varieties to tolerate specific chemical treatments and the phytotoxicity index of conventional varieties when exposed to pesticide residues in the soil.

In the reference 97 varieties crop Rapeseed, where this is mentioned in the description.

Varietal resistance in rapeseed is achieved through genetic engineering or breeding methods, allowing plants to withstand the effects of imidazolinones, sulfonylureas, triazines, glyphosate, and glufosinate ammonium. The certification of such lines often includes PCR tests for the presence of specific markers, such as the AHAS gene.

When assessing phytotoxicity in conventional rapeseed varieties, a bioassay method is used, where the key criterion is the inhibition of seedling root length on the fifth day. Growth inhibition of more than 20% is considered significant, and over 50% is considered a strong effect, making rapeseed a sensitive indicator for the residual activity of sulfonylureas and pyridine derivatives.

Low resistance in conventional varieties requires strict adherence to crop rotation and tillage depth to prevent latent plant suppression. Failure to comply with these conditions leads to a yield reduction of 15–25% or more, impairment of photosynthesis, and increased crop susceptibility to secondary diseases and pests.
