Herbicide resistance in soybean

Glycine max (L.) Merr.

The ability of soybean varieties to tolerate chemical exposure without yield loss. It is assessed through visual phytotoxicity, productivity comparison, fluorimetric indicators, and genetic marker analysis.

In the reference 50 varieties crop Soybean, where this is mentioned in the description.

Soybean resistance to herbicides is determined both by genetic mechanisms, such as the introduction of CP4 EPSPS or PAT genes that provide protection for target enzymes or metabolic detoxification of substances, and by the variety's ability to recover from stress. Assessment methods include visual monitoring of necrosis and deformations, comparative yield analysis of control and experimental plots, as well as the measurement of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters for the early detection of physiological damage.

A high level of tolerance allows for chemical weeding during the soybean growing season, which is particularly significant due to the crop's slow development in the initial stages. The use of resistant varieties is the foundation of minimum or no-tillage (No-till) technologies. At the same time, low resistance leads to a risk of crop damage, and selecting a variety based on its tolerance to soil-applied herbicides, such as the sulfonylurea group, is necessary to maintain crop rotation and avoid the residual effects of chemicals.
