For lilies, the duration of the vegetation period is determined by species affiliation and growing conditions. Asiatic hybrids are classified as early-maturing and require 50–105 days in greenhouse cultivation, whereas Oriental hybrids have a longer cycle, ranging from 75 to 135 days.

An important characteristic of lily vegetation is the post-flowering period, during which nutrient accumulation in the bulb and bud initiation for the next season occur. Premature cessation of vegetation during this time leads to plant depletion; therefore, it is critical for growing regions that the varietal cycle corresponds to the duration of the frost-free period.
