Verticillium wilt of flax

Linum usitatissimum L.

A fungal disease of flax caused by Verticillium dahliae, which affects the plant's vascular system, disrupting the transport of water and nutrients.

In the reference 6 varieties crop Common flax, where this is mentioned in the description.

The pathogen is a soil-borne fungus Verticillium dahliae, which survives in the soil for up to 15 years in the form of microsclerotia. The pathogen penetrates the root system and spreads through the xylem, causing leaf chlorosis, loss of turgor, defoliation, and characteristic discoloration of the vascular tissues.

Currently, there are no commercially available flax varieties with proven resistance to this pathogen. Research is focused on studying Ve1 gene homologs, such as LuVe11–LuVe14; however, their expression in flax does not provide guaranteed protection against wilt at this stage.
