Cucumber mosaic viruses

Cucumis sativus L.

A group of cucumber diseases caused by the Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and the Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV). They manifest as mosaic patterns, leaf crinkling, and fruit deformity.

In the reference 850 varieties crop Cucumber, where this is mentioned in the description.

The Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) belongs to the genus Cucumovirus and is transmitted primarily by aphids. The disease is characterized by the appearance of light green and dark green spots, chlorosis, and downward curling of leaves. Infected plants exhibit stunted growth, shortened internodes, and a reduced total number of flowers; however, symptoms may be masked at high temperatures.

The Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) belongs to the genus Tobamovirus and is highly resistant to environmental factors, including heat and desiccation. The pathogen is transmitted via seeds, soil, and contaminated tools, causing systemic mottling and crinkling of leaves, as well as fruit deformity. There are specialized strains capable of inducing specific symptoms, such as white mosaic.
