Uniformity of zucchini

Cucurbita pepo L.

An agronomic and biological trait characterizing the homogeneity of the zucchini crop in terms of fruit size, shape, and color. High uniformity is critical for marketability and standardization in industrial processing.

The trait is under genetic control and is an advantage of F1 heterotic hybrids created from homozygous lines. Despite the genetic potential, fruit uniformity can decrease under the influence of adverse weather conditions, which cause temperature or water stress in the plants.
