Based on growth habit, cultivars are classified into bush forms with a stem length of up to 50–70 cm, medium-tall varieties with a vine length of about 1.5 m, and tall indeterminate forms with unlimited growth that require the mandatory use of trellises.

The height parameter determines plant spacing and yield management strategy. For indeterminate cucumbers, height dictates the frequency of side-shoot removal and the level of pinching, whereas the compactness of bush forms allows for high-density planting schemes. In tall varieties, the intensity of vertical growth is often limited by the greenhouse structure and the vegetative load of the fruit.
