Within the framework of variety testing according to UPOV guidelines, the height of Clematis is measured in meters or centimeters by evaluating the most developed shoots during the period of active vegetative growth. This indicator directly reflects the growth vigor of the variety, where compact forms reach 1–1.5 meters, medium and vigorous ones range from 2.5 to 4 meters, and some species are capable of growing up to 9–10 meters.

The height trait is a determining factor in selecting support structures, such as arches, pergolas, or obelisks, and in planning pruning. Vigorous varieties require sturdy frameworks to prevent loss of aesthetic appeal, while compact forms are suitable for container cultivation, and certain species can be used as ground cover plants.
