Poinsettia plant height

Under DUS testing guidelines, plant height is measured from the soil surface in the pot to the highest point of the plant, including the bracts. The trait is evaluated on a scale that categorizes varieties as short, medium, or tall.

In its natural environment, the poinsettia is a shrub reaching heights of 120 to 400 cm. Commercial potted varieties are significantly more compact, ranging from 30 to 50 cm, although specialized forms can reach 150 cm.

Poinsettia height is a manageable parameter that depends on the number of weeks in the long-day phase following pinching, temperature regimes, and the intensity of growth retardant application. Plant compactness is crucial for increasing plant density during greenhouse production.
