Maize plant height

Height measurements are taken during the tasseling, silking, and milk stage phases by measuring the distance from the soil surface to the tip of the tassel. For accuracy, data are collected at no fewer than five points of the plot on non-adjacent replicates using a measuring rod.

Classification by maturity groups defines the following ranges: for ultra-early and early varieties — 0.6–2.0 m, for mid-season varieties — 2.0–3.5 m, for mid-late and late-maturing varieties — more than 3.5 m. This trait directly influences the leaf assimilation surface area and the plant's resistance to lodging.
