Cultivation

Greenhouse Cucumber

Cucumis sativus L.

Cucumber cultivation in protected ground is based on intensive light culture technologies and low-volume substrate growing, which allow for achieving high yields in extended rotations.

In the reference 801 varieties crop Cucumber, where this is mentioned in the description.

Parthenocarpic hybrids, which eliminate the need for pollination, are used for commercial cucumber production in greenhouses. The use of artificial substrates, such as mineral wool, allows for precise control of nutrition and prevents soil contamination by pests, particularly the root-knot nematode.

The cultivation technology requires strict adherence to microclimate parameters, maintaining temperatures above 15°C and automated humidity control. The crop requires intensive fertigation with a nitrogen-to-potassium ratio of 1:1.5, and maintaining low electrical conductivity of the solution is critical for the prevention of root rots.

The vine-like growth habit of the cucumber necessitates specific training through the removal of lateral shoots or the creation of short 'bouquet' branches. Depending on the lighting regime and production plans, crop rotations ranging from a few months to extended cycles of 11 months are utilized.
