Greenhouse carnation cultivation

Dianthus L.

Growing carnations in a protected environment requires strict control of the photoperiod, mandatory substrate sterilization, and management of the water regime to prevent plant death due to waterlogging.

In the reference 26 varieties crop Carnation, where this is mentioned in the description.

In industrial greenhouse cultivation of carnations, both hydroponic methods using mixed substrates and soil-based methods on artificial beds with a drainage layer and a pH of 6.5–7.0 are employed. An important agrotechnical feature is the use of support netting and regular shaping operations: pinching above the 5th–6th pair of leaves and disbudding to produce a marketable flower.

The carnation is sensitive to light conditions, which necessitates the selection of varieties based on day length, and it requires significant diurnal temperature fluctuations. The plant reacts very poorly to root waterlogging and wet foliage, therefore irrigation is carried out exclusively via drip systems. Due to high susceptibility to Fusarium wilt, the substrate must be sterilized, and calcium content must be monitored to prevent leaf tip necrosis.
