The plant's leaf blade has a silver-grey center and a wide dark green border; the midrib is also colored silver-white. The leaves are large, oval or lanceolate with pointed tips.

The mature plant reaches a height of 25–30 cm to 60–90 cm, in some cases up to 1 m. It stools poorly, and the stems are thin. As it grows, the lower leaves drop off, exposing the trunk. The variety is shade-tolerant and capable of developing in low-light conditions.

The plant contains calcium oxalate crystals, which makes it toxic if ingested and capable of causing irritation to the skin and mucous membranes.
