The variety Amfora is classified as onion, including F1 hybrids. There is confusion in descriptions where this variety is erroneously referred to as shallot, however botanically it is a representative of the species Allium cepa L.

Morphological traits of the variety include round, obovate, or oval-cylindrical bulb shape. The scale color can vary from golden-yellow to dark crimson or purple.

Agronomic characteristics are diverse: forms are found with maturity terms from early (96–110 days) to late (135–140 days). The onion is distinguished by good keeping quality, is suitable for long-term storage, has a semi-sharp taste, and has universal culinary application.
