Red Gourmet bulbs are characterized by a tall, round or teardrop shape. The outer scales have a bronze or dark red color, and the flesh has a snow-white or reddish hue. The variety is early-maturing with a ripening period of about 88 days.

The plant has a piquant taste. The variety is distinguished by a dense skin, which ensures good keeping quality when stored in dry, cool conditions. Also characteristic is a high ability to branch and form bulb clusters.
