Red Wing
ActiveAllium cepa L. var. cepa · Onion
Bejo Zaden BV (NL)
10 August 2026
The variety was developed by Bejo Zaden B.V. and De Groot en Slot B.V. within the framework of breeding programs for tropical onion growing, similar in type to Bombay Red. Research on the hybrid was conducted under field conditions, where its yield, average bulb weight, and suitability for processing, in particular for pickling, were evaluated.
Detailed morphological characteristics and data on disease resistance are absent in open agronomic references, which may indicate narrow specialization of the variety for specific markets. This hybrid should be distinguished from the early short-day variety named Capricio.
