The Rijnsburger type represents a group of breeding populations and hybrids historically formed in the Netherlands. The emergence of a specific type of cytoplasmic male sterility, known as R-cytoplasm, is associated with this type of onion.
Characteristics of the type are a rounded bulb shape, high density, presence of dry golden-brown scales, good keeping quality, and a pungent or semi-pungent taste. In terms of photoperiodic reaction, it is a long-day crop.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
