The variety has been known in European horticulture for over a hundred years under the names Giant Zittau and Zittauer Riesen. The bulbs have a golden-yellow color of dry scales; with proper care, their weight can exceed 450 grams.
The plant belongs to the main crop category and is suitable for long-term storage. The variety prefers well-drained, fertile soils. In scientific literature, it is often used as a model organism for studying bolting processes and bulb formation.
