The variety is a local Italian population from the Apulia region. Its name originates from the Italian word for "June," which indicates the timing of maturation and harvest.
The bulbs have a tendency toward a globe shape and a white color (ivory shade). Yield in commercial growing conditions can reach 75–80 tons per hectare.
