The variety has a characteristic "Grano" or top-shaped bulb shape, smooth yellow or straw-colored scales, and white flesh with a sweet taste. The plant's leaves are dark green and have an upright growth habit.

The Texas Grano 502 PRR modification has intermediate resistance to pink root rot caused by the pathogen Pyrenochaeta terrestris. The variety is intended for cultivation in southern regions with the appropriate day length and is used for fresh market sales.
