The variety was bred in France in the 19th century based on the Gros Court variety. It is classified as mid-season and is intended for harvesting in November and December.
The plant is distinguished by a short and thick "stalk" (pseudostem), the height of the edible part of which can reach 15–20 cm. The variety requires rich moist soils and a long growing season for development.
The produce has a sweet taste and is suitable both for fresh consumption and for industrial processing.
