The plant forms erect spears 1.2–1.5 m in height and develops fern-like foliage after harvest is complete. The variety possesses the ability to maintain a tight and well-pointed head even at high temperatures.

The variety possesses tolerance to Fusarium root and crown rot, but exhibits susceptibility to rust. In terms of yield and spear size, the variety surpasses the UC 157 line, which was developed by crossing male lines from New Jersey with California female lines.
