The variety belongs to low-growing types whose roots are submerged in the soil during growth, which provides increased resistance to frost but complicates cleaning from soil during harvesting. The high dry matter content makes the variety similar in chemical composition to sugar beet.

In the UPOV international variety testing system, «Nestor» is used as a reference sample for assessing the root width trait, which is classified as medium. The crop is intended for use for fodder purposes, primarily in the diet of cattle.
