The plant forms a rosette of large, smooth, elongated-pointed leaves of a light to medium green color with thin green petioles. The root system eventually becomes powerful. Harvesting of young leaves is possible 30–60 days after sowing.

The variety possesses increased drought tolerance and resistance to bolting, which allows it to be grown throughout the entire season in open field or containers. The leaves have a mild taste with an earthy undertone and are suitable both for fresh consumption and for culinary processing.

This variety is a traditional type of leaf beet, known since the 19th century. The name «Perpetual Spinach» often refers to a group of similar populations of leaf chard, rather than a single registered breeding variety.
