A mid-season variety with a maturation period of 55–60 days, suitable for harvest at the baby leaf stage. The plant forms an upright rosette 45–60 cm tall. The leaves are dark green with a bullate surface; the main distinctive feature is the bright crimson petioles and veins.

The plant is hardy, tolerates light frosts, but is prone to bolting under unfavorable conditions. The leaves and petioles have a mild flavor. The variety is versatile in use: leaves are used similarly to spinach, and petioles are consumed stewed, in salads and soups; the plant is also planted for ornamental purposes.
