The variety is a product of folk selection that developed in Latvia. Historically, it was widespread in the mid-20th century but eventually almost disappeared from cultivation. The variety was restored into cultivation with the participation of the Pūre Horticultural Research Centre and the organization Slow Food Straupe.

A traditional table variety used boiled, baked, fermented, and pickled. The root crops are distinguished by a sweet, juicy, and crunchy taste. The plant is adapted to the climatic conditions of the Baltic region with moderate temperature regimes and sufficient precipitation.
