Appin is classified as a forage turnip, not a forage rape. The plant is characterized by rapid development: the period from sowing to first grazing takes from 42 to 80 days. The crop forms a small, round root portion that is firmly held in the soil.

A distinctive feature of the variety is a high proportion of leaf mass relative to the root and a multi-crowned form, which promotes improved regrowth of green mass. The plant has high nutritional value and good digestibility, suitable for feeding sheep and cattle.
