This turnip is not a breeding variety in the strict sense, but represents a group of local varieties traditionally originating from the Talltendre region. Depending on the skin type, two main varieties are distinguished: those with a dark, almost black surface, and lighter, golden ones.

The plants are adapted to a cold mountain climate, sunny sites, and calcareous soils with high manganese content. Sowing is carried out in early August after harvesting cereals, and harvesting is performed by mid-November. The product is widely used in regional cuisine for preparing traditional dishes, including stewing and frying.
