The plant is a hybrid of Chinese cabbage and turnip, classified as a leafy crop. Unlike table varieties, this hybrid produces practically no root crop, concentrating resources on the development of leaf mass.

The full growth cycle to readiness for grazing is from 50 to 70 days. Due to the low position of the growing point, the variety has the ability to regrow, which allows it to be used for multiple livestock grazing. The crop is sensitive to drought and soil quality, as it has a weakly developed root system.

In addition to its primary use as feed for sheep, cows, and deer, the plant is used in agriculture as a trap crop to divert pests away from plantings of cabbage crops.
