The Hopkin variety is widely used in phytopathological research as an indicator of successful artificial inoculation of plants with the clubroot pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae. Its role is to demonstrate susceptibility to the pathogen when testing other breeding samples.
In the documentation of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), Hopkin is included in comparative tables where individual morphological characteristics are noted, such as the intensity of leaf pubescence and the degree of leaf blade blistering. A detailed agrotechnical description of the variety is not available in open sources.
