The Frontera Sweet variety belongs to the species Capsicum chinense and was discovered by Peter Merle on El Hierro island in the Canary Islands. This variety is a local landrace and is not related to the industrial programs of the Syngenta company.
The plant reaches a height of 90–120 cm, the ripening period is 130–140 days. The bright yellow-orange fruits resemble the Scotch Bonnet pepper variety in shape. The taste of the fruits is sweet with fruity notes; pungency is practically absent and is estimated at 0–500 Scoville heat units.
