The American variety "Doe Hill Golden Bell" is a 19th-century historical heirloom. The plant is compact, about 60 cm tall, and is suitable for container cultivation and regions with short summers. The ripening period is 65–72 days. The fruits are small, about 6 cm long, flattened in shape, with thick, crunchy walls. The fruit color changes during ripening from green to golden-orange; the taste is sweet and fruity.
