The variety belongs to the species Capsicum annuum L. Historically, it was developed as a large-fruited and fleshy pepper, which is reflected in its name, where the word óriás translates as "giant" or "huge."
This pepper is intended for cultivation in local farms, home gardens, and small greenhouses. During the period of 2008–2009, the variety was successfully used in greenhouse production employing automated irrigation systems and biological pest control methods.
