Variety description

10 August 2026

In scientific literature, Pasto is classified as a late-maturing quinoa accession, demonstrating lower yields under European climatic conditions compared to adapted varieties. Seeds of this accession are characterized by high protein content and are used for studying amino acid and fatty acid composition.

This accession is often used in breeding research as an object for evaluating adaptation to various environmental conditions and resistance to pathogens, in particular to downy mildew. Pasto is not a product of commercial breeding, but rather a population selected from high-altitude regions of South America for the study of the biological characteristics of the species.
