The variety forms a dense rosette "heart." The plant belongs to the type with entire broad leaves. In European catalogs, the variety is often classified as a variation or synonym of the Bionda a cuore pieno group, also associated with the Gialla a cuore pieno cultivar type.

During cultivation, a blanching (etiolation) procedure is applied, in which the central part of the rosette is covered approximately two weeks before harvest to reduce bitterness and provide the leaves with a tender texture. The variety is used as a salad crop.
